This three-part digital pattern bundle comes with three heirloom-inspired patterns for boys, all excerpted from the book Sewing for a Royal Baby.
Prince William’s Suit: On September 16, 1984, little Prince William, dressed in an English smocked shirt with matching red shorts was introduced to his new little brother, Harry (Henry Charles Albert David). Photos of William clutching his nanny’s hand as he left St. Mary’s Hospital in London circulated around the world. Laurie Anderson based this little boy’s suit on that precious moment. While she reproduced her vision in red and white, true to the original look and a perfect paring for the Elizabeth’s Red Dress pattern, the outfit could be made in any color combination to suit your tastes. Little Lad Sunday Suit:What we like about this piece, especially for boys, is that it offers a unique design line that is unmistakably heirloom without being too frilly. The suit is a remake of a vintage piece and was constructed by Helen Lively. The linen top is trimmed with white soutache braid for a clean, white-on-white effect; navy braid would give the suit a sailor look. A contrasting Madeira border, a touch of embroidery, or a different colored fabric for the shorts would be equally appealing. This pattern was excerpted from the book Sewing for a Royal Baby. Belle Heir Shirt and Button-on Pants: Treasures abound at Belle Heir (www.belleheir.com) where vintage clothing for babies and children is paramount. Each piece is sweeter than the next, and we chose this little boy’s top to reproduce just for our readers. The V-shaped yoke and piped tucks are design elements that are not only applicable to today’s children’s fashions, the overall style of the top could be worn by a boy or girl. Amelia Johanson made our reproduction with short sleeves and you have the option of the button-on shorts or the pull-ons from our Prince William pattern. The supply list includes what you will need for the original navy version as well as for the light blue and white suit we made using pique and pre-tucked cotton.
