In 1846, Queen Victoria ordered a sailor suit made for 4-year-old Prince Albert Edward to wear on the royal yacht. So endearing was the child in his scaled-down uniform that he was immortalized in a portrait by Franz Xaver Winterhalter. Thus began the allure of nautical-inspired clothing, a perennial favorite for more than 150 years. We’ve created a modified sailor collar we call the “Ascot Collar” to work perfectly with one of our favorite bubble patterns. Because the bubble has an asymmetrical front opening, the collar does, too. The boy’s bubble is embellished with a sailboat applique, but we’ve also included a ducky applique template and a gathered sleeve pattern provided with this e-pattern in case a little pink sailor bubble would better suit your little one. This pattern was originally published in Sewing for a Royal Baby. Download this e-pattern instantly and start sewing this project today! Pattern Sizes: 6M, 12M and 24M
This e-pattern also includes a bonus PDF, excerpted from Sewing for a Royal Baby, featuring general instructions for some of our favorite techniques.
